FAQ

Q: What hard drives are good to use?
A: At the moment, if you are looking for something that goes into Rest Mode, I do not have any recommendations. It is an issue for all drive manufacturers at the moment. I have been using Seagate ST and STDB series drives, and WD drives and have been reliable, and faster than the stocked drive. Certain Some drive thats are SSHD's, SSD's, or even with a cach >64MB have been known to have issue.

Q: How do I Format my hard drive?
A: Formatting can be tricky business. For Windows users, the trick has been to format drive by turning it into a GPT disk and using exFAT if that is an option. It blows my mind becasue PS4 IS NOT using windows, and actually a flavor of Linux.
I found the best way is to allow the PS4 to format the drive for you in the "Safe Mode"  by connecting the drive through the F4TMOD. If all else fails, try formatting the drive through winodws, but in most cases I found letting the PS4 do it works more than 90% of the time.
You can initialize your new drive in Safe Mode, and load a fresh Operating System (OS). If or when you want to install a fresh OS to your new drive, please follow Sony's directions here:

Q: Does this void my warranty
A: No, I spoke with Sony about this, and they said they support this feature for now. When returning your unit for service in any case, the hdd is removed, and the original cover will be re-installed.

I

Q: Why does the mod cost so much
A: Volume!! Everything I do is low volume so i don't get volume discounts on items I use to build the system with. Some might say "hey, it's like 2 dollars in plastic". This is not true, plastic is roughly 20 dolars just for the parts. Not including the time to finish them and the electricity. Also, I don't get the shipping materials for free.

Q: I just installed my games and it says they are corrupt!!!!!?????
A: This is hugely important. Only install 1 game first, and try it out. If it plays fine, install the rest of your games. If by chance the games say they are corrupt, you have to reformat your drive and start again. Rebuilding the database will not do anything to solve this issue, so don't waste your time.

I

Q: I installed a 6tb drive, and PS4 won't see it
A: It happens on ocassion, and I would recommend returning the drive, and trying another brand. If anything go to Administrative tools on you Windows PC and navigate to "component managament". In here you will be able to look at the drive, and see if the file system was loaded onto the drive. It will appear to have several partitions. In this case, you will just have to either try and reformat the drive, or as I mentioned, take it back, and exchange for another brand.
